Concert recently donated a converted shipping container to the Firehall Arts Centre, and to thank us the structure is now being called The Concert Hall at the Firehall.
The Firehall Arts Centre, located in the heart of Vancouver in a 1906 heritage firehall, is one of the city’s most vibrant arts hubs – and they are delighted to be re-opening safely for an audience set to a 50% capacity for their Music in the Courtyard series.
Prior to the pandemic, the Firehall produced and presented over 250 performances of professional theatre, dance and music each year making it a true community gathering place. But it has long required additional dressing room space, and COVID-19 amplified this need as it became more challenging to maintain safety protocols.
The converted shipping container, previously located at the North Harbour site, was moved earlier this summer and will provide a temporary change space for performers. After some additional renovations are completed it will become a permanent Green room for artists to prepare and relax between stage time.
“We’re pleased to be able to find a creative use for this container, and one that will help support Firehall’s future productions,” says Jonathan Silcock, Vice President, Development at Concert.
Produced in partnership with the Vancouver Independent Music Centre, the Music in the Courtyard series, which features an eclectic mix of folk, jazz, blues, rock, Afro-Cuban rhythms and more, opened in late July and will run until early September.
