Since 1989, when Concert was founded with the mandate to create assured rental housing, putting people first has been at the heart of our story.
And the stories we enjoy telling most are that of the people who make this company what it is today – especially when they’ve been here from the very beginning.
We are so pleased to share our next People-First Spotlight, Kathy Snelling. Kathy is our Senior Manager, Information Systems and she just celebrated her 30th anniversary with Concert on October 28, 2021.
What was your first position with Concert?
Accounts Payable and Payroll Clerk back in 1991.
In your own words, please describe your role:
As a member of the IST leadership group, I work closely with the team on our goal to empower the organization and connect people to technology. My area of focus is with the business applications.
My role is to work collaboratively with our team, the business areas and our technology vendor partners to understand operations, system capabilities and to provide implementation, administration, maintenance, and end-user support on these business applications.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about joining the Concert team?
Do it! It’s an amazing group of people all working collaboratively to build a people-first future. As a Concert team member you will feel welcomed and supported. Concert offers opportunities to challenge yourself and to participate in the continuous improvement happening around the organization.
How do Concert’s values and mission align with your personal values?
I am proud of the work that Concert does to build and support communities and the people that live and work in them. From the time I joined Concert to today, I have always had a deep pride and appreciation to be working for an organization that strives to make positive impacts in the lives of the many people it touches, and now through sustainability initiatives, the world we live in.
What’s your favourite memory of your time with Concert?
There are so many but the ones that stand out are when Concert gets together to raise funds for a good cause. The trades training fundraising event at Northview Golf and Country Club is a favourite.
All staff participated to put on an amazing event, and we had so much fun with our western-themed golf town. We entertained vendors and associates as they golfed and happily joined in with our shenanigans. A very memorable event.
What are your hobbies/interests outside of work?
I am a big soccer fan. I have always loved the sport, and with a daughter who lives on the field, I love watching from the sidelines. I also enjoy traveling with family and friends, glamping (when the weather is nice) and when I feel like relaxing, long walks.
After 30 years, what has been like to watch Concert change and grow from where it began to what it is today?
I have really enjoyed the people that I have had the opportunity to work and build friendships with over the years at Concert. To watch the company grow from a small portfolio of rental and development properties in BC to where it is today has been an amazing journey to be a part of.
