Concert acquired the property for our 88 Scott condominium project in Toronto from the Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Company of Canada (RSA). During the acquisition process, Concert was made aware that RSA had a time capsule buried within the building’s cornerstone.
As RSA was the original builder and occupant of the building since 1951, Concert worked with our contractors to recover the capsule and return it to RSA after the transaction closed. RSA then recruited a team of experts to open, analyze and preserve the contents. What exactly was found inside you ask?
While there could have been just about anything inside this non-descript metal box weighing several pounds, it turned out to contain primarily everyday items such as coins from 1951 and national newspapers from the day it was buried. In addition, there was a photo of the building’s completed exterior as well as insurance policies and financial statements.
Tradespeople are currently in the process of carefully dismantling the existing building, a portion of which will be re-used in the façade of 88 Scott. Located in the heart of Toronto’s Financial District at Scott and Wellington, 88 Scott will represent the tallest development Concert has undertaken. The 58-storey development will make a definitive mark on the City’s skyline and feature contemporary Canadian Moderne style interiors, a wide selection of floorplans and a variety of luxuriously appointed amenity spaces.
