Nancy McCurrach, a customer service representative at Telus, received the prestigious “Jefferson Award for Outstanding Service by an Employee” in Washington DC on June 22, 2017. Nancy is a member of the Telecommunications Workers Union, USW National Local 1944, an organization whose pension plan is one of the shareholders that own Concert. Both Nancy and Concert have been proudly supporting refugees from Syria as part of a deep-rooted commitment to community betterment.
Among other initiatives, Nancy founded the Tri-Cities Refugee Welcome Wagon, a group dedicated to helping Syrian and Turkish refugees who have moved to her neighbourhood. The organization’s efforts focus on those in need of the most assistance – refugees with disabilities as well as single and widowed mothers and their children.
Nancy is also involved with Soroptimists International of the Tri-Cities, an organization which assists women and girls who struggle with poverty and addiction, as well as the Warm Place program which offers hot meals and social support to marginalized and vulnerable women and children in her community.
Concert was proud to have been recognized in Nancy’s acceptance speech for providing accommodations at a subsidized rate for 20 Syrian refugee families for one year within the company’s Whitgift Gardens property in West Coquitlam.
