This past Saturday the Concert team in Vancouver banded together to serve thousands of meals to residents of the City’s Downtown Eastside neighbourhood. For the second year in a row, Concert worked in conjunction with the Union Gospel Mission to provide the people power and funding necessary to make their Annual Summer BBQ a success.
“This is the latest in a series of Concert CommunityWorks initiatives aimed at making a difference in our community,” said Brian McCauley, Concert’s President and Chief Operating Officer. "This type of volunteer day also provides a fabulous team-building opportunity for our staff and truly demonstrates the difference that can be made by working together.”
Hosted in Crab Park along the waterfront on a beautiful sunny day, the event welcomed all within the DTES community and beyond. The 16th Annual Summer BBQ event provided food as well as live entertainment, a children's play zone and a wheelchair repair station. Beyond food and fun, the event also acted as a gateway for those in need to learn about the alcohol and drug recovery programs and other initiatives offered by UGM. Thank you to Impark who kindly offered free parking for Concert volunteers during the event.
