Vancouver, British Columbia - The first Open Doors event in British Columbia was a big success thanks to companies like Concert Properties, who with its operator Leisure Care Retirement Communities opened its doors to the public at its seniors living community in Vancouver, The O’Keefe Retirement Community.
In celebration of International Day of Older Persons on October 1, public and private companies in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario that offer seniors’ retirement living opened their doors to the community to showcase the “new world” of seniors’ housing and care.
“Open Doors is a wonderful opportunity for seniors and their families to explore new housing and care options that are becoming increasingly more available today,” said Bob McKay, Senior Vice President, New Business Initiatives, Concert Properties. “Concert continues to expand its interest in the development of new housing forms that provide seniors with more choice in terms of accommodation, amenities and the level and choice of service than ever before.”
Open Doors also provides an opportunity to explore the public/private partnerships involved in seniors retirement living as well as to dispel the myth that seniors housing is still the traditional “nursing home.”
Concert as the developer and owner of seniors lifestyle living is exploring these innovative housing options across Canada with its operator of choice, Leisure Care.
Open Doors is an initiative of the Care Guide, a well-known seniors publication, and was piloted successfully in Ontario in 2005. This year organizers expanded the event to British Columbia and Alberta.
In British Columbia, a group of public and private partner groups, such as Concert Properties and its operator Leisure Care, BC Retirement Communities Association, BC Housing, BC Care Providers Association and the Ministry of Health came together with the Vancouver Sun and Province to present the full range of accommodations and services now available to seniors.
