A love of bikes is pervasive among Concert staff. For many, bikes represent a healthy and environmentally-friendly way to commute and a great way to spend time outside connecting with co-workers. Jonathan Silcock, Development Manager in the Vancouver office, has been a long-time patron of North Vancouver’s Obsession Bikes.
Each year, through a program called Bikes for Tykes, Obsession Bikes partners with Family Services of the North Shore, and other care agencies, with the aim of connecting under-privileged children with previously-loved bikes. This year, the goal of getting 250 bikes ready in time for Christmas was met, leaving Obsession Bikes with an outstanding need for appropriate storage.
“I saw an opportunity to get involved and help out with a cause that, for many of us at Concert, is dear to our hearts,” says Silcock.
As a result, Concert became an official sponsor of the Bikes for Tykes Program this holiday season, donating a 20-foot shipping container to store the bikes as they are tuned up and prepared for their new homes.
“We saw this donation as a great way to ensure that the children in our community not only have a wonderful holiday season, but are also given the chance to foster a love for cycling,” says Brian McCauley, Concert's President and Chief Operating Officer. “We love when staff identify unique opportunities for us to contribute to our community.”
Now that the goal of 250 bikes has been met, the community is invited to help with the next step: providing kids with helmets.
